You may only ever love me As that moment When your sky knew my ocean And my ocean knew your sky. Fleeting Like water through your fingers When you try to grasp it But limitless Like the stars Blinking back, When you remember to look up. When you fell in love with me I thought about my toenails — Natural and wild, Unladylike and Untamed by polish or color. I almost missed the flood in your eye Busy scrunching flesh Against sand Holding on To a galaxy of grains Dancing like lilas To stop my fall.
