The Heartline: Poetry

Where Sky Meets Sea

A poem about embracing love, letting go of limitations, and reuniting with its oft-hidden everyday magic.

You may only ever love me
As that moment
When your sky knew my ocean
And my ocean knew your sky.

Fleeting
Like water through your fingers
When you try to grasp it
But limitless
Like the stars
Blinking back,
When you remember to look up.

When you fell in love with me
I thought about my toenails —
Natural and wild,
Unladylike and
Untamed by polish or color.

I almost missed the flood in your eye
Busy scrunching flesh
Against sand
Holding on
To a galaxy of grains
Dancing like lilas
To stop my fall.
